The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with the School of Physical Education & Sports Science and the
support of the Municipality of Zografos and the Postgraduate Program of the Medical School "Global Health - Medicine of the
Disasters" held the 5th Kapodistrian Road Race with great success
on the University Campus, on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
The Kapodistrian Road Race is a sporting institution created in the context of the celebration
of the 180th anniversary of the University and since then it has been held with great success every year in the area of
Campus. This race aims, among other things, to promote health through exercise
and is addressed to students and citizens regardless of age and gender, who are interested
for recreational physical activities. In particular, this year the race was upgraded with a new, easier route
2000 m. with minimal elevation differences for the 10 km race and the walking race
4 km road race. Also this year a new 1000 m route was added for children. 275 runners participated in the 10 km,
117 runners participated in the 4 km race, while 85 children of all ages participated in the children's race.

Specifically, 3 competitions were held:

1. a) 10,000 m race for adults,
2. b) walking route 4,000 m and
3. c) 1000 m race for elementary, middle and high school children.

The new route that was designed is 2000 m., it is beautiful and with minimal elevation changes and
is located on the University Campus. Spyros Prodromidis and Christoforos Georgopoulos
They finished together in first place, with 36.30.
Third was Ioannis Mittas with 39:51. Isabelle Matucci took the lead in the women's race with 43:15 and
followed by Sofia Tastsides (46:58) and Maria Tsilimidou (47:40).

The Rector of the National University of Athens, Professor M.-A. Dimopoulos, welcoming the runners, emphasized that the
KAPODISTRIAKOS DROMOS /"symbolizes the continuous, uninterrupted movement and operation of our University"/.
On behalf of the Municipality of Zografou, the Mayor of Zografou, Mr. V. Thodas, honored the race with his presence.
Special thanks for the impeccable organization were expressed to the faculty members of the School of Science.
